Click on the pic above and read the text up to Face With Cowboy Hat. I'm positive you already know what most of those emojis mean, but you may not know all the English words used to explain their meaning.
In your notebook, under the heading Emojis vocabulary, jot down 10 words which are knew to you and you have looked up in a dictionary. We will discuss them with your classmates on Monday.

'The Witches', by Roald Dahl

Click to listen to a scary Halloween story.
List as many verbs you hear as you can.
The witches in the pic below are not old, ugly, hook-nosed women, as traditional folk tales usually portray them. Discover how British writer Roald Dahl depicted witches in his novel "The Witches".
Just at one click you'll find your mid-term reading assignment. I hope you'll enjoy it! 😉
History of witches and witchcraft
After Caroline's excellent presentation of the Trials of Salem in class today, you are now presented with a shorter history of witches and witchcraft. Reading it may help you understand what happened in Salem, Massachusetts, in the late 1600s.
As you already know, this is your homework for the looooong weekend. 🎃 You'll have to hand in the answers to the comprehension questions next Monday. Remember to jot down new vocabulary. I'm positive you'll enjoy this assignment. 😊

Halloween horror story
Before you watch the clip below, have a look at a horror story, as retold by Jamie Keddie, and think who the main character in the story is.
In the beginning, my life was peaceful
Days spent with my family in the garden
The sunlight warming my skin.
Peaceful.
And then one day, they came without warning
Cruel hands dragging me from my dreams
Into a wheeled box.
They carried me past my brothers and sisters, my friends and family
I cried for help but my kin remained silent
My home began to fade in the distance
And suddenly
Everything went dark.
When I woke up, I found myself on hard grey earth
Where was I?
And then they came
With large kitchen knives!
The pain was terrible – I became dizzy – I felt sick
They made a giant hole in my head
They pulled my insides out and threw them in front of me
Like ribbons from a gift.
When they finished, I sat in shock
Praying that it was over
But of course...
It was not!
The knives returned
They cut a face in my side
And they put a stick of hot fire in my belly
Burning, burning flame!
The sunlight warming my skin.
Peaceful.
And then one day, they came without warning
Cruel hands dragging me from my dreams
Into a wheeled box.
They carried me past my brothers and sisters, my friends and family
I cried for help but my kin remained silent
My home began to fade in the distance
And suddenly
Everything went dark.
When I woke up, I found myself on hard grey earth
Where was I?
And then they came
With large kitchen knives!
The pain was terrible – I became dizzy – I felt sick
They made a giant hole in my head
They pulled my insides out and threw them in front of me
Like ribbons from a gift.
When they finished, I sat in shock
Praying that it was over
But of course...
It was not!
The knives returned
They cut a face in my side
And they put a stick of hot fire in my belly
Burning, burning flame!
