ORAL PRACTICE IN 4 STEPS
Prepare--Rehearse--Record --Upload your speech
Speak for 3-4 minutes on the topic 'Healthy habits'. Read carefully the instructions and assessment citeria below. Your speech must be uploaded before Monday 3rd February.
You need to know exactly the content of your speech as well as how you are going to express that content. Therefore, you need to prepare, that is to say, you need to read and listen to different texts on the topic before you set to doing the task.
If you click on the healthy heart picture below, you will log into a Spotlife page and you'll be able to listen to the reading of a text on the topic. This may give you some ideas. You may also find information elsewhere.
*Prepare your speech thoroughly: look for information and the language you need to convey that information in English but DO NOT COPY -you will not get a good mark if you do so.
*Once you have the info and know how to say it, organise your speech in three parts -a short introduction, a body and a conclusion with your own position on the topic.
*Stay on topic: even if you mention something personal or examples, try not to digress.
REHEARSE
*Practise speaking with a watch: you need your speech to be within the time limits.
*Speak clearly: this is not spontaneous speech, it is prepared speech, but it has to sound as speech, NOT AS THE READING OF A TEXT.
*Avoid using slang: this is a school task so the register must be accordingly.
*Practise and practise until you feel confident.
RECORD
*Record yourself and name the file after yourself.
UPLOAD
*Upload your file before the deadline. Click here to upload it.
*****
Your oral task will be assessed taking into account the following
CHECKLIST
*Pronunciation and intonation: Is it easily understood? Does it sound as oral / written language?
*Time limit: Is it within the time limit? Too long / short? (+/- 10%)
*Content: Is the information relevant / logical?
*Structure: Is there an introduction, a body and a conclusion?
*Grammar: Is it grammatically acceptable? Are there only minor grammatical mistakes? Are there important grammatical errors which hinder understanding?
*Vocabulary: Is it appropriate? Is it varied? Are there synonyms / repetition? Are concepts well connected?
